Cat DNA Traps Killer
The UK’s first cat DNA database has been created and has already been used in court to help convict a killer.
Forensic scientists at the University of Leicester have compiled data from 152 cats. It was used to demonstrate that cat hairs found on the dismembered torso of David Guy, from Hampshire came from Tinker, a cat owned by the main suspect, David Hilder, who was convicted of manslaughter at Winchester Crown Court in July.
Jon Wetton, who led the project said:”This is the first time that cat DNA has been used in a Criminal trial in the UK”. (source Times 15/8/13)
