Born David Albert Cook on July 23rd 1947 in Plaistow, Newham. An only son his father was an East End Dock Worker and his mother, an Irish Traveller, played piano in a number of local pubs. When David was five he moved to Canning Town 45, Avondale Court E16 (today a CTR TMO property). He went to Star Lane School. In his autobiography he said his home had wallpaper with bamboo and leaves, a cocktail cabinet and a big radiogram. Underneath the flats was a playground on which he honed his footballing skills finally playing for West Ham Juniors. David remembers Canning Town as an extremely colourful place a “world of yellow smog”.
Greatest hits: “Rock on” number one in America. “Lamplight” number 10 UK Singles Chart (1973): Two Uk number 1’s “Gonna make you a star”(1974). “Hold me close” (1975). “Stardust” made the top 10 (1974).
Musical roles in “Tommy”(1973). 1978 “The War of the Worlds” and “Evita”. Will be known now as Eddie Moon from East Enders.
